Race winner Kimi Raikkonen and second podium finisher Max Verstappen, both asked Lewis Hamilton whether he had still become the 2018 Drivers’ Champion after finishing third in the US GP.

Trolled or an awkward question – Hamilton, Raikkonen and Verstappen all gathered in the rest room ahead of the podium ceremony, the Finn said: “Did you win the championship?”

“No,” was Hamilton’s short response.

The Italian outfit also had their say in an altogether unlike method after the race with the tweeting a shushing emoji…

The Finn made a great start and overtook Hamilton at turn one on the opening lap in Austin and went on to secure his first race win since 2013. Hamilton could only manage a third-place finish behind Red Bull’s Max Verstappen.

Hamilton confused by the Mercedes two-stop strategy

Hamilton made first pit-stop during the Virtual Safety Car period on Lap 11, and he maintaining 17 seconds gap between Kimi.

But his pace drop down following the high degradation, and the Brit ultimately had to pit again he was third, and 12 seconds behind the leaders.

“We made it so hard for ourselves,” Hamilton insisted. “I’m not really quite sure how the strategy ended up like that.”

“Twelve seconds was way too far to catch up,” he said.

“Naturally I thought we would be able to do better. It’s a little bit of a surprise, but you can’t always get it right.”
