Vettel happy with 2nd place on grid after neck injury

Sebastian Vettel shows an impressive performance with his highly upgraded Ferrari machine in Qualifying Q3, and its indicates another Ferrari-Mercedes close-fitting at British Grand Prix.

Vettel secured provisional pole with a lap of 1:25.936 in the first Q3 attempt shading Hamilton by five hundredths of a second. But Hamilton clinch his home track pole in the final Q3 battle to tow himself ahead of the championship leader by 0.044s.

Vettel was unable to recover, and he stays onto second place. But in the final session of Q3 his Ferrari team-mate Kimi Raikkonen set the quickest time of all in Sector 1, but a mistake in Turn 16 cost him extremely and he finished third.

“I had a bit of an issue [with my neck] in practice but it was fine in qualifying,” he adds.

“I was very happy with the last lap but we seem to lose a lot of time in the straights. I’m happy with second and it gives us a good chance for tomorrow.”

“I don’t know what happened. The German told Sky F1 regarding his neck trouble.

“The night will help, so I’m not worried. Also the speed tomorrow is less than in qualifying as we have more fuel.”
