Dominant Mercedes again booked front row for Sunday’s Austrian Grand Prix, this time a tiny change, championship leader Lewis Hamilton will start from second place on the grid after being beaten by team-mate Valtteri Bottas.

Main title contender Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel initially qualified on third, but he demoted to sixth following being penalised for blocking Renault’s Carlos Sainz. Vettel’s penalty promoted his Ferrari team-mate Kimi Raikkonen, Red Bull’s Max Verstappen and the Haas F1’s Romain Grosjean.

Struggling McLaren boy Fernando Alonso will start from 14th following a fault on his final run in Q2 as team-mate Stoffel Vandoorne and Force India’s Sergio Perez failed to make it out of Q1.

Alfa Romeo Sauber F1 ace, Charles Leclerc qualified a remarkable 13th but has a five-place grid penalty following a gearbox change in practice.
