Checkered flag mistake cost Ricciardo FL, error meant Max FL honour

Canadian Super model Winnie Harlow has exonerated herself from any responsibility for waving the Canadian Grand Prix checkered flag one lap early.

Harlow took to social media to post a picture of her flag-waving-self, expressing her gratitude to be able to perform the duty but insisting she did it when she was told by a race official.

“When they tell you to wave the flag a lap too early! You had one job sir!” she wrote on Instagram.

Daniel Ricciardo was definitely affected by the mistake as he missed out on picking up the fastest lap of the race.

The Australian recorded his time on the official final lap of the race but Harlow’s error meant Max Verstappen instead got the fastest lap honour.

Under article 43.2 of the sporting regulations, it stipulates that the result is taken from the lap before if the chequered flag is waved early.

Fortunately for the drivers in Montreal it didn’t mean any of them missed out on any positional changes as there were no overtakes in the final two laps.
