Max Verstappen says his qualifying performance at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix was bad and also, he admits the entire weekend he struggled with the balance of his RB13.
“The session was bad. The whole weekend I was struggling with the car balance and just not happy with it,” says Max Verstappen who will start sixth.
“Sometimes you have to accept it’s one of those days where it’s not going to be your day. You are fighting the car a lot. We tried to do the best possible job but that was sixth today.
“I don’t know what went wrong otherwise we would have changed it. We need to understand what it was and hopefully we can learn something for tomorrow.”
Team-mate Daniel Ricciardo will line up in fourth, the duo was separated by three-tenths of a second. Max said he wasn’t pleased with the balance of his Red Bull .
“Run by run it’s a bit different because we change a lot of things: Front grip, rear grip. Qualifying was more, I guess, rear grip.”
The Dutchman added he is worried his set-up misery could make for a complicated race. “If you’re not happy in the short runs then normally the long runs are not great,” he said. “We’ll find out tomorrow.”
