No penalty against Hamilton, Silverstone pole position stands

Lewis Hamilton escaped from penalty after post-qualifying investigation after being cleared of blocking Romain Grosjean during British Grand Prix qualifying Q3.

Hamilton secure the pole position at Silverstone, with a stunning Super Soft-shod lap of 1:26.600, more than half a second ahead of Kimi Raikkonen.

But he was under investigation by the race stewards following Haas rival Grosjean complained that he was held up by Hamilton in the early stages of the Q3 phase.

Grosjean approached Hamilton’s car through the technical Club section and gesticulated as he crossed the line, before shouting over the radio, “What was that?!”.

The stewards began to investigate the incident before qualifying had concluded, but confirmed that Hamilton had not illegally impeded the Haas driver and will start tomorrow’s race from pole position.

A statement issued by the FIA said: “The stewards examined video and telemetry evidence and concluded that while GRO may potentially have been affected by the presence of HAM at Turn 16, he was not impeded.”
