Sauber preview the Canadian GP

Formula One’s summer season starts with the first of three back-to-back race weekends in Canada and Azerbaijan. The seventh round of the Formula One World Championship will take place from 10th to 12th June in Montreal. Directly after this Grand Prix weekend, the Sauber F1 Team will head to Baku, where the European Grand Prix will take place there for the first time from 17th to 19th of June. The Baku City Circuit becomes F1’s third true street venue besides Singapore and Monaco.

Marcus Ericsson (car number 9):
“I am looking forward to the upcoming Grand Prix weekends. Starting with the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal, I like the track a lot as well as the atmosphere around it. It is a great event. Directly following that is the European Grand Prix in Azerbaijan. It is good for Formula One to have new race tracks, as well as new host countries on the calendar. I do not know much about Baku, but I like traveling and getting to know new places. The circuit itself is an unknown for all of us. The track walk before kicking off the race weekend will, therefore, be important for us. I am looking forward to racing in Baku and hope many fans will cheer for us during the race weekend.”

Felipe Nasr (car number 12):
“Some busy times are lying ahead of us. After the Canadian Grand Prix, we head directly to Baku for the European Grand Prix. I am always looking forward to getting to know new race circuits as well as new places. With a track length of about six kilometres, the Baku City Circuit is the second longest on the calendar after the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps. I also believe it has one of the longest straights on the F1 race calendar. From what I have heard, it is a nice venture right in the city centre of Baku. I hope we will see many F1 fans there who support us during the Grand Prix weekend.”

Track facts Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve:
The Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve on the Notre-Dame Island is considered a combination of a street and permanent track. Long straights, five sections with corners that have changes in direction and one hairpin are the characteristics of this circuit. Mainly speed, traction and braking stability are beneficial. The layout of the circuit is the most demanding on the whole calendar in terms of brakes.
