Horner praises ‘incredible’ Ricciardo attempt

Red Bull Racing team boss Christian Horner praises and highly satisfied with Daniel Ricciardo’s second place on the grid at the Chinese Grand Prix.

Championship leader Rosberg, who has captured pole position for Sunday’s Chinese GP, Daniel Ricciardo has beaten the Ferraris to the front row.

“Where on earth did that come from? I’m quite shocked actually,” Horner told Sky Sports at the end of the qualifying.

“To qualify on the front row of the grid is an incredible performance, he just got quicker and quicker, and put everything together. The wind actually made it quite tricky but he nailed it.

“Rosberg’s on a different strategy, but we’re in the race. We know we’re vulnerable, but we’ve got to see the start lights for the first time in a while front the front row and we’ll be giving it everything.”

The second Red Bull speedy Daniil Kvyat qualified sixth for tomorrow race.

“To be honest I don’t think we started in the best position in Q1, with the balance it didn’t seem like we’d be near the front few rows. But in Q3 we found a bit more speed. Ricciardo said.

“The Super Soft is tricky to manage here, to get one lap out of it. It gets chewed up. It was about understanding that as the session went on, me on track and engineers making adjustmernts with pressures. Second on the grid is pretty awesome. I didn’t expect this!”
