Mick Schumacher wins Formula 4 debut race

Mick Schumacher, the son of seven-time Formula one world champion Michael Schumacher, has had a winning debut in the Italian Formula Four race.

Driving for Italian team Prema Powerteam, the 17-year-old clinched victory in the opening round of the season on the Misano track, after starting in second place behind Marcos Siebert.

“That was great; my race speed was simply fantastic,” Mick Schumacher told AAP.

It did not take the youngster long to recover and overtook his opponent at the start of the race, eventually winner with a gap of 2.3 seconds from second-placed Raul Guzman and remained in complete control for the remainder of the contest.

The legend, Schumacher is still recovering from a terrible skiing accident suffered two years ago that left the German in a coma, but his son is also starting to shine on the track.
