Indonesia offers 2016 Manor F1 €15 million for Haryanto race seat

The Indonesian Ministry for Youth and Sports division, has offered Manor F1 €15 million (£10.8m or $16.5) to race native speedy Rio Haryanto in 2016 Formula 1 championship.

The sources hints that, Haryanto, who finished fourth in GP2 in 2015, could drive in F1 2016 season for Manor Mercedes.

The Offer Letter

“Regarding to our discussions with Rio Haryanto and his management, we are pleased to confirm that the Ministry of Youth and Sport of The Republic of Indonesia will guarantee a payment of 15 (fifteen) Million Euro for Rio Haryanto to compete the 2016 Formula 1 World Championship with the Manor Formula 1 team.

The payments will be made in return for “branding space on the race cars and drivers’ race wear plus a host of promotional activities to promote Indonesia and associated companies”. said the letter from Youth and Sports minister Imam Nahrawi.

Other source Autoweek reported that — Despite a retooling of licensing rules in F1, Haryanto likely won’t be affected if Manor chooses to sign him. He obtained a Super License in 2012, and even though, by rule, it will expire after three years of inactivity, the driver did testing for Pirelli earlier this year in Abu Dhabi.

The new rules state that a driver can qualify for a Super License if he or she is “judged by the FIA to have recently and consistently demonstrated ability in single-seater formula cars.” Due to his experience in GP2 and in F1 testing, the FIA should grant him a Super License.
