Lewis Hamilton race strategy fault cost P1 in Abu Dhabi GP

Triple time world champion Lewis Hamilton says that, he doesn’t understand the strategy Mercedes put him on during the second stint of the Abu Dhabi GP.

Hamilton pitted 10 laps later than race winner Rosberg and the Brit insists he wasn’t give choice on tyres; Mercedes say he was given choice

Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff, said that if Lewis Hamilton tried his own strategy he would “lose every time”, and he was proven right here. This time Champ opted harder tyre in final pit-stop of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix for a short-run.

“You have to rely on the engineers to give you the optimum strategy at that point,” Hamilton told Sky Sports F1.

“Honestly I don’t really understand it, I came out 11 seconds behind and had a mountain to climb and then the tyres went off.”

Reacted about choice of the softer tyres — “I let the team make the call as I didn’t know what was the right one.” Hamilton added.

When the source asked to Toto Wolff — Did Lewis choice the strategy during the race?

“Yes we took your criticism on board last time and we gave him all the options this race and the tyre to choice. But it was just really difficult, Nico was the quicker guy today and he was a little bit too far up the road and he couldn’t manage that. Finally he opted for the harder tyre because it was a bit too long to go for the option.”
