Hamilton and Rosberg’s awkward press conference

The F1 season is done and dusted following one more dominant display by Mercedes; All ten teams will fire their engines again this coming week, in a dawn-til-dusk Pirelli tyre test in Abu Dhabi.

After that will be a short spurt to Christmas, but it is clear there is no love lost or holiday cheer between Nico Rosberg, who completed a hat-trick of wins on Sunday, and his champion teammate Lewis Hamilton.

Lewis and Nico were the recipients of a tricky question at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix press conference. And their awkward response was priceless.

A reporter asked if the pair would get each other a Christmas present. The awkward silence is immediate and almost palpable, as the pair politely smiles.

They have a long history of being less than friendly despite being teammates, and the question clearly caught them off-guard.

Rosberg looks bemused, and takes a moment to respond, his eyes darting around, searching for a response. “Hmm, maybe a Christmas card” before awkwardly smiling again and going silent.

The reporter puts the same question to Hamilton, who also looks surprised.

His answer differs slightly, saying: “I don’t think we’ve ever done either so there’s no reason to change.”
