Verstappen fastest with corner skip set top time in P1 of Mexican GP

Verstappen fastest in practice 1 of Mexican GP Max Verstappen kicked off F1 return to Mexico since 1992 by topping the timesheets in opening practice at the Circuit Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez. Also It was the first time he has headed a session.

The young ace posted a fastest lap time of 1:25.990, after cutting a part of Turn 10. The morning session that saw all of the drivers heading out to get as much mileage as possible to learn the track.

“It is so slippery everywhere, it’s like there is oil,” Verstappen complained during his FP1 run and also Fernando Alonso likened it to “driving on ice on the wet and dry patches.”

Daniil Kvyat, meanwhile set an identical lap time to Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen in third. Sebastian Vettel was half a second back on team mate Raikkonen in fourth, with no other drivers getting within a second of Verstappen’s level.

Lewis Hamilton, freshly crowned as world champion for the third time, had a low-key session and finished an off the pace 11th in his Mercedes.

His team-mate Nico Rosberg has cut a disgruntled figure since throwing away the United States Grand Prix last week and drove aggressively in claiming sixth. But he had his session interrupted when he skidded off the track and limped back to the pits with fire visible in his rear wheels due to his breaks over-heating.

Local hero Sergio Perez finished ninth in his Force India.
