Rosberg quickest in FP2, Red Bull splits Mexican Mercedes

Nico Rosberg of Mercedes was the fastest around the redesigned Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez circuit on Friday second practice session.

Mexican Mercedes sandwich with Red Bull duo Daniil Kvyat second and Daniel Ricciardo third.

Newly crowned three-time champion Lewis Hamilton finished fourth, 0.4s off his team-mate’s pace, as Red Bull’s Daniil Kvyat and Daniel Ricciardo split the Mercedes’.

“We’ve got a pretty decent car to start the weekend with,” Red Bull team principal Christian Horner told Sky Sports F1.

“The worst sector will be sector one, but sectors two and three you can see we’re [quick]. If we can find a bit more time in sector one I think we can be competitive this weekend.”

Evening session had scarcely begun when marshals had to red flag the proceeding when Max Versteppen, who was fastest in the morning session, spun his Toro Rosso, striking the side wall.

Williams speedy, Valtteri Bottas also had a terrifying moment in second practice, which resulted in him losing the front wing of his Williams. The Finn got back on track and finished up in seventh place behind the two Ferraris.

Local hero Sergio Perez, who is the only Mexican on the grid, could only set 15th-fastest time.
