Haas F1 to name second driver in Mexico for 2016

Team boss Gene Haas says an announcement confirming its second driver for Haas F1 in 2016 will be completed in Mexican Grand Prix next week, suggesting it will be Ferrari reserve driver Esteban Gutierrez.

US-based outfit will make its F1 first appearance next year and they have already confirmed current Lotus’ Romain Grosjean as their “main driver” for their maiden campaign.

Haas tells Sky F1 the announcement of his team’s second driver for 2016 will be made next Friday night in Mexico – “We’re going to make an announcement in Mexico City on Friday night.”

When pressed on who it would be, Haas laughed and said: “I think you can work that one out!”

Gutierrez made his F1 debut with Sauber in 2013 F1 season before being dropped at the end of the 2014 season. The Mexican has spent the 2015 campaign as the Ferrari reserve driver
