Red Bull and Toro Rosso are in talks with Renault for 2016

Red Bull and their sister team Toro Rosso are in talks with current engine provider Renault, following Mercedes and Ferrari reject request for 2016 V6 power unit, according to Autosport.

Divorce papers were served on their current suppliers, Renault, two months ago. Honda, the only other engine suppliers on the grid, have an exclusive deal with McLaren for 2016 F1.

Former British racing driver and Sky Sports commentator Martin Brundle believes Renault is Red Bull’s only option as an engine-supplier after Ferrari’s announcement that they will not be providing engines for 2016.

Formula 1 commercial right holder. Bernie Ecclestone, meanwhile, has confirmed “everything is being sorted” as he plays his part in ensuring the grid does not fall to nine teams and 18 cars next season.

Despite recent claims from Mercedes non-executive chairman Niki Lauda that Mateschitz has lost interest in F1 Ecclestone said: “He knows what he’s doing.

“He has never fallen out of love with F1. He just wants to be in a position where he can be competitive.

“And that’s what will happen. He will be OK.”
