A 360-degree spin at 200 mph not a nice experience – Rosberg

Friday practice speedy Nico Rosberg admits that his huge tyre failure in practice for the Belgian GP delivered quite a shock and says it was simply down to luck that he didn’t crash heavily.

The German’s Friday was dampened following his right-rear tyre failure as he headed to Blanchimont at high speed during the second session.

“That was definitely not fun,” Nico told reporters following escaping unharmed from the heart stopping incident in which the right rear tyre shredded in seconds as he approached Blanchimont at full throttle.

“It was not a nice experience. A 360-degree spin at 200 mph is not something you expect at all. Luckily I did not hit the wall. I didn’t feel anything before, there was no warning. There will be a big analysis. I was feeling quick before then, comfortable.”

The footage evidence suggested the tyre had started to fray several turns before.
