GP2 and GP3 added an extra non-F1 round to its 2015 calendar
The GP2 and GP3 championships will stage an extra round in 2015 season in support of the World Endurance Championship event in Bahrain.

Following the cancellation of the German GP, GP2 and GP3 organisers have been keen to include an additional round. While both events usually run alongside a F1 weekend, they will race at the Sakhir circuit on November 19-21, a week before the season finale in Abu Dhabi.

“I am pleased to confirm that we have added Sakhir to our 2015 GP2 calendar in November,” GP2 Series CEO Bruno Michel said.

“Ever since the announcement of the cancellation of the German event, we have been working hard to try and add a round for our Series.

“It was important that we could keep the costs down for the teams, but also to find a venue that was an added value for the drivers. Bahrain International Circuit was the best option: not only is it a Formula One track, but it makes perfect sense to have it back-to-back with the final round of the season in Abu Dhabi.”

The Sakhir circuit hosted the opener of the GP2 season in April as part of the Bahrain Grand Prix weekend. It will mark GP3’s first visit to Bahrain.
