Hamilton: 'I made the perfect choice tyre-wise'
Defending F1 world champion Lewis Hamilton won his home race, the British Grand Prix, for the third time following bouncing back from a slow start.

The local hero, started on the pole, but the Williams duo of Felipe Massa and Valtteri Bottas, who started third and fourth, in that order, passed Hamilton for position heading into the first corner of the opening lap.

Mercedes made quick 2.4-second pit stop on lap 19 and Hamilton took over the top spot when the round of stops completed on lap 22. Following make, a comfortable gap before rain began falling on the track.

Again, Mercedes F1 team made an outstanding judgment to pit on lap 43 for intermediate tyre, and secured Hamilton the British Grand Prix today.

During the podium Q&A Hamilton hailed a perfectly-timed decision to pit for intermediates as he claimed a third British GP victory.

“Thank you everyone for coming out today and making my weekend. I really wanted to do it for you guys. I am so thankful for all the support. I could see all the fans on every lap in the corner of my eye and they spurred me on. Hamilton said.

“My clutch was good, we had quite poor grip at the start, the same for Nico but it made the race more exciting. I just kept pushing. For the first time in my career I made the perfect choice tyre-wise.”

“I am so elated you cannot imagine. I teared up on the last lap hoping I could do it for all the guys. Thanks for all the support. Now let’s party,”
