Hamilton cruises to British GP victory
Lewis Hamilton wins after inspired decision to switch to intermediate tyres with ten laps remaining; Nico Rosberg fights back in the rain to take second.

Sebastian Vettel snatches third from Felipe Massa and Valtteri Bottas; Williams drivers ran one-two in opening laps but Bottas prevented from challenging Massa for lead; Alonso in the points for McLaren; Safety Car deployed after lap-one collision between McLaren and Lotus cars.

Lewis Hamilton is first Briton to win from pole at Silverstone since 1994.

The Brit said over the Mercedes radio: “I’m so happy with that. Thank you to all the fans. That one was for you”.

“After what happened back in Monaco earlier this season, I’m sure he must’ve been wondering whether his team had made the right call to bring him in and change to the intermediates.

Mercedes boss Totto Wolff said of Hamilton’s vital pit stop: “It was Lewis’s call to come in. We gave him the option. He did it at the perfect time and that gave him the edge.

“Williams were very quick, they both had a superb start and then it was impossible to overtake them, but when the weather got a bit more trickier that helped us.”
