Hakkinen not expecting 2015 F1 McLaren-Honda domination

Former double-time F1 world champion Mika Hakkinen has said that he is doubtful about McLaren’s quick come-back to the top of the field in 2015 following the partnership with Honda, who will supply power unit to the Woking based F1 squad.

Honda engines and energy recovery systems, renewing a relationship between the two companies that won four drivers’ championships, four constructors’ championships and 44 Grands Prix between 1988 and 1992. But, former McLaren speedy Hakkinen does not think it will immediately be successful as some are expecting.

“Under the leadership of Ron Dennis, the development of McLaren has again headed in the right direction,” Hakkinen wrote in his Hermes blog.

“During my own Formula 1 career I have worked with many engine manufacturers. After a change of engine brand, we were never satisfied in the first year.

“Based on my own experience, I would consider it to be a small miracle if Honda would immediately return to the top, although they also have very extensive experience in the world of motorsport.”

Ferrari shake-up

How Fernando Alonso’s departure from Ferrari will affect the situation of Kimi Raikkonen?

“If a driver is in a situation, as was the case for Kimi this season, then he will reflect and analyze how it happened that there was a lack of pace. This one goes continuously through again. In my opinion the resignation Alonso at Ferrari of Kimi’s view was neither positive nor negative.”

“For many fans, it was difficult to see with determined, as Kimi towards his teammates constantly lost. But Kimi’s problems are not solved by Alonso goes.”
