Lauda: Mercedes can now compete with the top three teams

Former triple time world champion Niki Lauda believes that Mercedes can now compete with the top three teams.

He highlighted that Mercedes new recruit Lewis Hamilton and existing driver Nico Rosberg will be to talented bond the fight for a top three place in this season Constructors’ title.

Mercedes too struggled in the first two day testing at Jerez. First day running skip due flames burst out of the rear of Nico Rosberg’s W04 earlier in the morning.

Hamilton’s first day in the car was limited to just complete 15 laps, the Brit forced out the first day testing following break issues.

Mercedes’ Non-Executive Chairman Niki Lauda says that he felt optimistic regarding the W04 existing form following the opening test of the year at Jerez.

“The cars are relatively close together,” Lauda told Bild.

“In my view, Vettel is the fastest at the moment. The Red Bull works well and looks reliable. He is a bit faster than the rest, but my joy is that Mercedes can now compete with the top three teams.”

“The tests are there so you can eliminate errors,” said Lauda. “Nico and Lewis have been so busy in the final days. The two failures on the first days were made up for.”
