Upgraded McLaren able to fight at the front – Button

Jenson Button pleased with McLaren’s latest updates and P2 in last race at Germany. He says that last few races McLaren pace was good and expecting dry weekend in upcoming races.

Button told Formula 1 official website about his German GP second place, next races expectation, and McLaren latest upgrades.

“I hope so. I felt pretty good in the car the last few races, but only at the last race we had good pace – and a reasonably good result in the end.” Button said

“We’ve been able to fight at the front, which is great, and hopefully here we will be in the same position. The updates on the car helped us quite a bit and hopefully we will have some dry weather this weekend, because qualifying under wet conditions has been pretty tough for us.”

Button is confident with McLaren’s latest upgrades he says it was definitely a big step in the right direction.

“It was the second time this year that the race pace was really there – there was nobody quicker – so that is good news. The last race was definitely a big step in the right direction, so let’s hope that we will have more of the same this weekend.” Button said.

“It would be nice to have a dry qualifying – that would help a lot as we have a couple of things here that should help us when fine-tuning for this circuit. But the majority of the car is what we had in Hockenheim, as it was only a week ago, and we’ve been reasonably happy there.”

2008 world champion settle down his this year drivers title chances, he says Alonso now in massive gap with him because not thinking about the championship and still focusing fight in the front for every races.

“Well, it’s a massive gap to Fernando (Alonso). Fernando and Ferrari have done an amazing job over the last few races and I know how difficult it is to come back from there. Actually I am not thinking about the championship – and every driver that you ask this weekend will tell you the same.” He added.

“We want to go racing, we want to fight in the front, and of course we want to win. Everything is so far in the future that it is useless to stare at the standings right now.”
