Button top fastest in Australian GP first practice

McLaren one-two in 2012 opening Friday practice session in Australian GP, Jenson Button set top fastest lap-time in wet condition, 2009 world champion done quickest lap in final half-hour with 1:27.560.

Lewis Hamilton set second fastest lap-time just 0.245s behind his team-mate in the closing moments, and sort-out Schumacher back to third.

Seven times world champion Michael Schumacher set third fastest for brand new Mercedes AMG with 1:28:325.

Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso set fourth fastest ahead of home boy Mark Webber, The German Nico Rosberg set sixth fastest lap time.

Toro Rosso’s new guy Daniel Ricciardo finished seventh fastest ahead of Williams F1’s Pastor Maldonado, Kimi Raikkonen only ran in the final few minutes following a long break in the Lotus garage having his steering rack changed.

Double world champion Sebastian Vettel set 11th fastest behind the Sauber F1’s Kamui Kobhayashi. Force India duo Nick Hulkenberg and Paul Di Resta finished 12th and 13th fastest respectively.

The Brazilian Bruno Senna done 14th fastest ahead Sauber F1’s Sergio Perez, Lotus F1’s Romain Grosjean and brand new Caterham’s Kovalainen finished 17th and 18th respectively.

Felipe Massa ended the morning in the gravel after putting a wheel on the grass under braking for Turn 9. Hispania Racing was very tough start to an F1 season with neither car setting a flying lap. Pedro de la Rosa’s machine was not ready in time to leave the pits during the session, while rising engine temperatures led to Narain Karthikeyan’s car cutting out on the backstretch after 32 minutes.
