Whitmarsh: I’m not too hung up on the brand ‘FOTA’

McLaren F1 team Principle and FOTA chairman, Martin Whitmarsh is expecting that Team Association will continue the better work with present members. Ferrari, Red Bull, Sauber and Toro Rosso depart the Team Association since the end of 2011 season. And Lotus F1’s Gerard Lopez also planning leaving from FOTA

“I’m not too hung up on the brand ‘FOTA’,” Whitmarsh said. “I think what’s important is that the teams realise there are critical issues within this sport where it will be better if we cooperate and take sensible decisions, and I hope and believe that we’ll continue to do that.”

“We are in constant contact with all the other teams and discuss any important issues, like the RRA (Resource Restriction Agreement), and we will also stick to the agreed factory closing dates in August,” he said. “It definitely has not become easier for the smaller teams. To cut costs in Formula One is a very difficult and thorny issue. The RRA was a step in the right direction, but now other steps must urgently follow.”
