Toro Rosso has announced that its 2012 F1 car will be ready to run on the opening day of official testing at Jerez on February. Ferrari-powered Toro Rosso TR7 passed the last of the FIA’s mandatory crash tests on Thursday. FIA initiate new rules for 2012, the car is therefore now fit to test at Jerez from 7 February.

“Having previously passed various static crash tests, our new car, the TR7, has passed all remaining FIA crash tests,” the Italian, Red Bull-owned squad explained on its website. “These are compulsory for all cars that will compete in the Formula 1 World Championship and this year they were even more stringent, as the sport’s governing body continues to pursue safety as one of its main aims in the sport.”

News point to that new driver Daniel Ricciardo – the a little more experienced of the team’s lineup also featuring rookie Jean-Eric Vergne – will be driving the TR7 on the opening day. Frenchman Vergne is expected to drive on the last two days of the four-day test.
