No problem working with Hamilton – Alonso

Published

Aug.09 – The Spaniard Fernando Alonso said, he would have no problem working with Lewis Hamilton if the McLaren driver ever moves to Ferrari. The British driver Lewis Hamilton freshly left the door open to an upcoming move to the Ferrari, although he insisted that he is not pursuing the switch at the present time.

But Alonso, who currently drives alongside Felipe Massa at Ferrari, says he would welcome Hamilton into the team and believes the battle between them would be fairer outside McLaren.

“I am very happy with Felipe and I hope to be with him for many years,” he told the Spanish newspaper Marca. But if another driver comes there will be no problem, we would work the same way for the team. And if Hamilton comes, (it will be) the same.

“If we were team-mates in another team it would be a much cleaner and real fight.”

Ferrari’s driver Fernando Alonso currently fourth in the 2011 championship standings but the Spaniard insists that Ferrari has not given up on the title despite his 89-point deficit to Sebastian Vettel.

“We must try and win as many races as possible,” he said at Ferrari’s summer press event in Italy. We are realistic and the championship situation is what it is, but we have seen so often that there can be sudden reversals.

“And after all, we are Ferrari and we have a moral obligation, especially for the millions of fans spread around the world, to always think of the maximum goal. We can’t ever say we will tackle eight races without having the championship in the back of our mind: we will always have an eye on the title, at least until there is no longer the slightest chance.

“Of course we must start winning and we have to hope that Vettel makes a few mistakes or has some problems.”
