Rosberg set the fast time of the first session of free practice for the European GP on Friday as the McLaren team laid down an untimely marker. Rosberg, who utilized his F-Duct to good result in setting his quickest time, clocked a best lap of 1m41.175s to finish the session ahead of the McLarens of Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button.

Kubica finished the opening session fourth fastest ahead of Ferrari’s Felipe Massa.
The Red Bull duo of Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber, who had earlier played down their chances at the circuit this weekend, finished sixth and seventh fastest respectively.

Home favorites Fernando Alonso was ninth fastest, a place behind Michael Schumacher’s Mercedes.

The second free practice session begins at 13.00 BST.
