Ferrari will replace the engine of Felipe Massa

Massa receives new engine ahead of the season first race Bahrain GP this afternoon. The Brazilian, double time a winner at Sakhir, has qualified on the front row of the grid beside Sebastian Vettel and will not receive a tenth position grid drop for the change. According to past rules which meant each driver’s engine had to last for first a sole and then two race weekends, Massa would have slipped back in the starting blocks by 10 spots for the modify although since 2009 each entrant is provided with 8 power plants for the duration of the year.

Not the best start of the day, reads Ferrari’s official Twitter feed. We are going to change Felipe’s engine but just for safeguard. The engine can be used again in Free Practice sessions. Under present technical policy, a driver will only get a Tenth place drop should he begin to make use of his ninth engine of the season. In the event of using a tenth on the same weekend as the ninth, Tenth place penalties will be functional for both the race weekend in question and the next event.
