According to sources, McLaren-Honda speedy Fernando Alonso may be skip upcoming Singapore Grand Prix with the Spaniard said to be trying his hand in the season final IndyCar race at the Sonama raceway on the same weekend, 15 – 17th of September.
Following report, McLaren boss Zak Brown has comprehensively refuted that Alonso will skip one more F1 grand prix this season for another IndyCar race and insisted that the Spaniard has not even asked to miss another grand prix weekend, in this case, Singapore.
F1 double world champion skipped the Monaco Grand Prix in order to challenge the Indianapolis 500 as part of his Triple Crown bid, but it ended in with his Honda engine trouble.
“It’s completely crazy,” Brown told Racer. “He would have to first make that request through us, which he has not, and that event conflicts with F1 in Singapore. It’s fake news.”
Still shadow over Alonso’s future come with McLaren still thinking whether to continue with Honda into 2018, though it looks too late for the team to switch manufacturers at this stage.
Andretti Autosport is also in discussions which Chevrolet about an engine supply in 2018, which Racer suggests could thwart plans for McLaren to link up with the team for another Indy 500 appearance in future — something both Brown and Michael Andretti have indicated a desire to do.
