Kubica dislodged Hulkenberg’s name sign

The first time in six-and-a-half years, Robert Kubica leaves the garage for his first lap, unfortunately he clips the wall on the left rear and dislodged Nico Hulkenberg’s sign above hits the car.

Fortunately, that wasn’t Jolyon Palmer’s name board Kubica removed as otherwise the fans would inevitably have had a field day.

Following an initial install lap, Kubica came back out for another lap, pitted for a planned nose change, and then left for the track again.

The first time lap was 1:24.299 followed by a latest improvement to 1:22.130 and now he is sixth fastest, who currently completes a nine-lap run in the Renault.

“The last two months testing a 2012 car gave me quite a big boost and somehow I was hoping to get a chance to try a 2017 car,” said Kubica ahead of the test.

“To have this opportunity during the offiical test is something special. It’s a bit unexpected.

“I would like to have a comfortable feeling in the car but also see the team happy with the job I have done.

“It’s not about laptimes and pace, but the commitment and feedback I can provide.

“It will be crucial and I will concentrate to do my best.”
