‘Worth the wait’ – Bottas hails ‘Amazing’ first F1 win

Valtteri Bottas survived from nonstop race-pressure from championship leader Sebastian Vettel to take his first F1 victory following attack from third on the grid to take the lead at the race start.

The German crossed the line less than one second behind the Finn to extend his lead over Hamilton to 13 points. Bottas’ first race in 81 attempts and moves him within 10 points of teammate Hamilton

“Amazing, it took quick a while, more than 80 races for me, it was definitely worth the wait, definitely worth the learning curve. Bottas said following the Russian GP battle.

“This strange opportunity came to me in the Winter to join this team and they’ve made it possible today, so I want to thank the team, it wouldn’t be possible without them, it was amazing.

“We’v had a tricky beginning of the year, the fight with Ferrari, today we managed to be on top, we need to keep pushing, we need to keep finishing with both cars, one and two that’s the plan, I’m just very very happy now.”

“Normally I’m not that emotional, but hearing the Finnish national anthem was special.” The Finn added.

“It feels a bit surreal. Hopefully it’s the first of many. It was definitely one of my best races personally ever.

“[I will gain] a lot [of confidence]. I’ve always knew I could do the results if everyone goes right but it’s nice to get the confirmation that everything is possible.”
