Mercedes mistake as race engineer accidentally calls Valtteri Bottas ‘Nico Rosberg’ during Chinese Grand Prix race. The Silver Arrows seemed to be missing their former world champion Nico Rosberg on Sunday when a race engineer accidentally mentioned to Bottas by the wrong name.
Mercedes new recruit Bottas gradually finished in sixth place in the race, some inspiration on the radio turned into a slightly embarrassing moment for the team.
On lap 47, viewers were confused to hear an engineer say to Bottas: ‘We still have potential for P4 here, Nico… Valtteri, so just keep pushing.’
Bottas was running fifth on lap six when, still under safety car conditions, he lost the rear of his car and spun across the grass, dropping to 12th as a result.
The Finn took full blame, telling his team over the radio: “Really disappointing, so sorry guys for the amateur mistake. I know it doesn’t help but I will make it up in the next races…”
Bottas ended up finishing the race in sixth, just 0.7s behind Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen – and within four seconds of Red Bull’s Max Verstappen,
