Vettel led Ferrari 1-2 as Mercedes struggle in FP3

Championship leader Sebastian Vettel led a Ferrari 1-2 in third and final free practice at the Chinese Grand Prix as Mercedes looked to struggle to keep up.

Ferrari duo Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen were separated by just 0.053 seconds, with Mercedes driver Valtteri Bottas in third, 0.371secs adrift. Lewis Hamilton was fourth, 0.172secs behind his team-mate Bottas, but made a mistake on his fastest lap.

Williams F1 veteran Felipe Massa was fifth ahead of Red Bull drivers’ Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo. The Brazilian’s best was a 1:34.773 while the Red Bull duo were 1.6 and 1.7s off the pace.

F1 rookie Lance Stroll made eighth fastest ahead of Renault’s Jolyon Palmer and Toro Rosso’s Carlos Sainz. Nico Hulkenberg finished with eleventh fastest for Renault F1. Kevin Magnussen was 12th fastest for Haas ahead of Sergio Perez’s Force India, teammate Romain Grosjean, the second Toro Rosso of Daniil Kvyat.

As for McLaren-Honda F1, Fernando Alonso was P17 with Stoffel Vandoorne 19th fastest.
