The young F1 sensation Max Verstappen had a near miss with what he called a ‘giant lizard’ during practice for the Singapore GP, with the huge reptile seen scampering across the track this morning.

The Marina Bay street circuit has seen its fair share of track intruders over the years, including a wandering pedestrian in 2015, but this was possibly an even rarer occurrence.

“There is a giant lizard on the track. I am not joking,” radioed Max Verstappen.

“Face to face with godzilla,” came the deadpan reply from the Red Bull engineers.

It’s suspected that the large reptile was a Monitor Lizard, a common species in Singapore.
