Nico Rosberg retains his place at the top of the times during Friday’s second practice session for the German Grand Prix, ahead of Mercedes team-mate and championship leader Lewis Hamilton.
The local hero set a best lap time of 1:15.614 to beat Hamilton by almost four-tenths of a second on the super-soft tire, Just five days after losing the lead in this season’s drivers’ title for the first time, it was a perfect ‘bounce back’ by the 31-year-old Mercedes man.
Behind Mercedes it looks like another close fight between Ferrari and Red Bull, Sebastian Vettel set third fastest, the young F1 sensation Max Verstappen was fourth ahead of his Red Bull team-mate Daniel Ricciardo and 2007 champion Kimi Raikkonen in the second Ferrari.
Another home boy Nico Hulkenberg responded to being at home by taking seventh in his Mercedes-powered Force India ahead of 2009 champion Jenson Button of McLaren Honda.
Sergio Perez was ninth in the second Force India and two-time champion Fernando Alonso was 10th for McLaren.
