Nico Rosberg grabs pole position for the Hungarian Grand Prix away in dramatic style at the end of a Q3 at the Hungaroring, edging out Lewis Hamilton; the yellow flag following the Fernando Alonso’s spinning cost Hamilton his place at the top of the timesheet.
The start of qualifying was delayed following heavy rain hit the area following final practice, soaked the track.
Red Bull duo locked out the second row, Daniel Ricciardo leading from young sensational Max Verstappen, while Sebastian Vettel finished down in fifth as the sole Ferrari to make it through to the top 10.
Ferrari’s problems continued with the second ace Kimi Raikkonen being eliminated in Q2 after getting his timing on the track wrong, meaning he had one less lap on slick tyres as the track dried and starts 14th.
Carlos Sainz made a best qualifying of the season in P6 ahead of the McLaren duo of Fernando Alonso and Jenson Button. Nico Hulkenberg and Valtteri Bottas rounded out the top 10, both having been caught out by the yellow flag.
