The German outpaced newly-crowned triple-time world champion Lewis Hamilton, by 0.377 seconds with his final flying-lap in a closely-fought session.
Lewis had been fastest in the Q1 and Q2 — following Rosberg reacted to take pole again, as he did before last year’s showdown race.
Speaking after the session, Rosberg said: “Before it was close in the other direction [with Hamilton ahead] and now it’s close in this direction. I’m quicker at the moment and I’m just very pleased about that and enjoying the moment. [I’m] happy to be on pole again.
“Primarily I would just like to win the race because it’s a great feeling to win and it would also give my whole crew and the team a great end to the season and a good reason to party tomorrow night. That would be awesome, to all have a good time together, so that’s primarily on my mind. Of course whatever we learn this year also help going into next year, so it would be great to finish on a high.”
