Nico Rosberg took his fifth successive pole position with his Mercedes team mate Lewis Hamilton qualifying alongside him on the Brazilian Grand Prix front row. Rosberg currently leads Vettel by 21 points in the standings with two races remaining and Mercedes targets two places in Championship.
“There is a gentleman who needs to finish second in the championship and that is important,” Wolff said.
“The primary objective is to make Nico score a lot of points and secure second in the championship. Then the development race for next year is on already and it is valuable mileage we can achieve out of those days on the weekend and at Abu Dhabi, so these are the two primary objectives.”
‘Lewis is absolutely aware this is a team exercise.’
While Wolff also added that Rosberg, who ended his winless streak at the last race in Mexico, does not require any help in winning, his remark appeared to be news to Hamilton.
‘Firstly, no-one in the team has told me that so in terms of “I know that” that is not really the case,’ said Hamilton when asked about Wolff’s comments. ‘We are racing as far as I am concerned.’
