Sainz fastest in rain-hit first practice for Japanese GP

Toro Rosso speedy Carlos Sainz took fastest time throughout a rain-hit mornning practice session for the Japanese Grand Prix, ahead of Red Bull driver Daniil Kvyat and Mercedes’ Nico Rosberg.

Rosberg running engine that had to be replaced at Monza as Mercedes run evaluations. Lotus remain locked out of hospitality unit in paddock and their drivers only complete one lap.

Toro Rosso rookie, finished above Red Bull’s Daniil Kyvat with a lap of 1:49.434 – just over half a second faster than his nearest rival.

Nico Rosberg finished the session in third place, a tenth of a second slower than Kvyat, while his teammate and championship title rival Lewis Hamilton was a further six tenths of a second behind the German in fifth.

Singapore Grand Prix winner Sebastian Vettel separated the two Mercedes drivers in fourth place, with a lap of 1:50.519.
