Formula 1 world pay tribute to Justin Wilson

One month following the early death of Jules Bianchi, one more regrettable darkness cast over the world of open wheel motorsport last night as the family of British racer Justin Wilson confirmed his death.

The 37-year-old, Justin Wilson suffered serious head injuries during the season’s second to last race at Pocono Raceway in Pennsylvania on Sunday, when debris – the nose cone – from the car of then race leader Sage Karam – struck Wilson as he tried to avoid the accident. He was taken to hospital in a helicopter but died from his injuries last night.

Just hours before Justin’s death, British F1 and IndyCar legend Nigel Mansell posted a message on his Twitter account sending his prayers to the driver’s family

Mansell said: “We are praying for Justin Wilson just so unlucky keep fighting our thoughts are with him and his family,at this difficult time.”

But six hours later and within minutes of Justin’s death being announced he tweeted again – “Terrible news flashed up on American TV. Justin dies from injuries sustained from Sunday’s race. Deepest condolences to all the family R.I.P.”
