Defending world champion Lewis Hamilton makes it a clean sweep of the practice sessions in Shanghai as he tops the times in FP3.
The Brit was just 0.2 seconds faster than teammate Nico Rosberg in second, with the Ferrari cars of Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen not far behind in third and fourth. Vettel was 0.7 seconds off the pace, while Raikkonen was 0.9 seconds back.
Hamilton’s practice, though, wasn’t all clear running as he required a seat change having informed Mercedes that it was “getting too hot” in his cockpit.
The Ferraris have managed to close the gap with the silver cars somewhat in China, though neither Vettel nor Raikkonen has managed to top Hamilton’s times in practice.
Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo and Daniil Kvyat were fifth and sixth although the latter complained of brake problems.
Carlos Sainz set seventh fastest ahead of Valtteri Bottas and Max Verstappen completed the top eight. Romain Grosjean rounded out the top ten in the Lotus
It was a very difficult session for McLaren-Honda and in particular Fernando Alonso, the Spaniard’s car made it through just two corners before grinding to a halt with an engine problem. Team will now be working to ensure he is able to take part in qualifying later today.
