Rosberg tops as Hamilton halted by engine trouble



Mercedes speedy Nico Rosberg set top fastest while his teammate Lewis Hamilton halted by engine trouble within just four laps.

Paddy Lowe, Mercedes’ Executive Director, told Sky F1 that the engine would “not necessarily” have to be changed for P2.

Mercedes have confirmed it is an engine problem: “Crew currently investigating an engine problem for Lewis Hamilton – not the ideal way to start but we’re working hard to analyse.”

Ferrari duo made a thrilling performance, Kimi Raikkonen set second fastest, he lapped within 0.3s of Rosberg, and his teammate Sebastian Vettel is 0.861s off the pace, his session was interrupted following overheating problems that not allowed him doing a run in the first half hour.

McLaren made a good progress, with both Fernando Alonso and Jenson Button completing trouble free running. Alonso ended the session 14th fastest with his teammate Jenson Button 17th.

Romain Grosjean set a solid fourth fastest time on 1m 41.543s, Toro Rosso’s Carlos Sainz Jr and Max Verstappen in fifth and seventh places sandwiching Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo.

Williams had a hard morning, with the FW37s looking disobedient as Valtteri Bottas set the eighth fastest and Felipe Massa the 11th on 1m 42.103s

Ferrari powered Manor-Marussia finally turned in their first laps of the 2015 season. Both Will Stevens and Roberto Merhi completed eight laps each, morning mileage will give valuable data for upcoming recovery… more to follow
