The part of the cost-cutting, FIA decided that will be just two in-season tests 2015 season, first one at Barcelona after the Spanish Grand Prix and last at Red Bull Ring following Austrian Grand Prix.
In this season in-season tests all teams must give out two days to running ‘young drivers’.
Also in this season three pre-season tests scheduled, beginning in Jerez (1 Feb – 4 Feb) with the second and third tests taking place at Barcelona (19 Feb – 22 Feb and 26 Feb – 1 Mar).
Each competitor will also be permitted to carry out two Promotional Events (PE) with the above cars which will not be considered Testing of Current Cars (TCC).
A PE shall be defined as an event in which a competitor participates purely for marketing or promotional purposes. No such test may exceed 100km in length and only tyres manufactured specifically for this purpose by the appointed supplier may be used.
The 2015 regulations stipulate that the three pre-season tests must be held in Europe.
As the sport’s technical demands have grown in recent years, so too has the importance of testing. But with the FIA ever mindful of rising costs, since 2009 teams have been limited to 15,000 test kilometres during a calendar year. Promotional events (of which each team is allowed two per season up to a maximum distance of 100km each) do not count towards this tally.
