Lewis Hamilton made a mistake in Turn One and he turns it round to go fastest now by just 0.007 seconds ahead of team-mate Nico Rosberg.
“It was quite an exciting qualifying session,” says Lewis Hamilton, who starts on pole. “I wasn’t expecting to see so much difference in how close everyone was.
“We did some good laps in the first and second parts of qualifying and the Ferraris were close. The way it ends is good for our team.
“On my last lap, I locked up into Turn One, I lost a bit of time, but managed to pull it back. At that point, I thought it was over, but I just kept going and it got better and better. It’s a great effort by the team.”
“I think coming into the weekend, we had an opinion about how the tyres would behave,” adds Lewis Hamilton.
“When we got into the long runs yesterday, we saw quite a big difference to what we expected.
“Tomorrow should be interesting. Looking after the tyres is not easy, but I think it will be a good race to watch for the fans.”
