The German clocked a best lap of two minutes and 5.698 seconds to outpace his title rival and team-mate in unpredictable conditions at the long 7.004-km Spa Francorchamps circuit.
The pole was Rosberg’s seventh of the season, with dominant Mercedes taking 11 of the 12 so far, fourth in a row and 11th of his Formula 1 career.

“I am really happy, the car was handling well. Together with my engineers we fine tuned it perfectly and got there in the end. It is only qualifying, a long race tomorrow but I am very happy.
