It’s time for the Team to take a bit of a breather after a hectic first half of the 2014 F1 season – but motorsport doesn’t shut down for the summer, far from it – and if you want to see one of our cars in action, you don’t have to wait for a grand prix.
The Live Demo team are in Assen this weekend, to help celebrate the GAMMA racing days. Jean-Eric Vergne is on loan from Toro Rosso and will be driving the mighty RB8 on Thursday evening in downtown Assen before the action switches to the TT circuit, where Sébastien Buemi will take over for a series of runs on Sunday.
Better known for exploits on two wheels, the TT circuit at Assen has pedigree on four wheels also – and the GAMMA racing days feature an eclectic mixed programme. Officially the Live Demo team are present to lend their support to the Formula Renault 2.0 & 1.6 Northern European Cup – but the programme goes far beyond that with Clio Cup racing, historics, CIK-FIA Superkarts, the FIM Sidecar World Championship and Dutch Superbikes.
In amongst that Sébastien will be putting the double Championship-winning RB8 through its paces with a runs of fast laps, burnouts and donuts. Last year the free event pulled in 80,000 spectators, and with Assen comfortably holding 100,000, hopes are high that this will be beaten in 2014. It promises to be a spectacular weekend of racing in Holland. (Red Bull)
