Rosberg takes home victory as Hamilton charges from 20th to third

Nico Rosberg won the German Grand Prix for Mercedes and extended his world title lead over team-mate Lewis Hamilton who battled throughout the track from 20th to finish third behind Williams speedy Valtteri Bottas, this is his third podium finish in a row.

Defending world champion Sebastian Vettel was fourth, ahead of Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso who won his battle with Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo for fifth.

Rosberg’s victory was the first for a works Mercedes team in Germany since Argentine Juan Manuel Fangio in 1954 and his fourth victory of the season.

Valtteri Bottas is the first Williams driver to take three successive podium finishes since Juan Pablo Montoya at the 2003 German, Hungarian and Italian Grand’s Prix.
