Hamilton storms to British GP victory as Rosberg forced to retire

_76082046_britgp_hamilton_paLEWIS HAMILTON storms to his home race at Silverstone for British Grand Prix, and close the drivers’ title points gap between nearest rival Nico Rosberg.

The Championship leader Nico Rosberg retired from the grand prix with a gearbox problem.


Mercedes co-team boss Toto Wolff: “We haven’t spoken to Nico yet but it’s clear he is very disappointed.

“We had seen a couple laps earlier a problem with the gearbox but we don’t know the reason yet. We want to play things safe with Lewis and get him to bring the car home.”

He adds that Hamilton’s gearbox is a little “younger” than Rosberg’s unit.

TEAM RADIO: Lewis Hamilton’s race engineer: “You can’t touch this Lewis home grand prix.”

Lewis Hamilton: “England! What a great feeling guys I couldn’t be happier, I’m sorry about yesterday but a fantastic job today as ever.”

“I’m really happy for Lewis, he really deserved it,” says Mercedes co-team boss Toto Wolff. “It blows the championship wide open.”… more to follow
