2014 British GP: Vettel quickest in rain-hit third practice

This is first time defending world champion, Sebastian Vettel has finished on top in any practice session this season.

The German fastest on a 1:52.522, one tenth quicker than his team-mate Daniel Ricciardo, Ferrari speedy Fernando Alonso, Mercedes drivers Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg did not set lap times.

Lotus’ ace Pastor Maldonado set third quickest, ahead of team-mate Romain Grosjean, and both Sauber’s running a bit wide in difficult condition and finally Adrian Sutil made fifth and his team-mate managed Esteban Gutierrez 12th fastest.

Local hero Jenson Button set eighth fastest ahead of Williams’ Valtteri Bottas and Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen.

The majority drivers only hit single figures in terms of laps, while Toro Rosso’s Daniil Kvyat did 15 without any major trouble.

Marussia’s Jules Bianchi the only man hit into the barriers at the Stowe corner, and Lotus’ Romain Grosjean spun out after last turn and narrowly escapes from the crash.
